Fuel Up Design | Concept · CAD · Fabrication

This Fuel Up Design project transforms the original radio blanking plate of a 1965 Lotus Elan into a discreet, driver-focused interface. Designed and executed using a direct digital-to-physical workflow, the replacement plate was surface-modeled in Alias Autodesk and 3D milled for precise fit and finish.

The component integrates a centrally mounted iPhone and a manual cooling fan override switch, improving ergonomics, usability, and thermal control in modern driving conditions. Audio is handled via a Bose Bluetooth speaker, allowing the dashboard to remain visually restrained while positioning the phone in the original radio location for improved reach, visibility, and reduced sun exposure.

Supporting imagery documents the beta milled prototype and machining process, illustrating Fuel Up Design’s approach to respectful modernization—introducing modern function while preserving the character and intent of the original interior.
